Im Interview mit Designerin Nina Bruun: Wer mir bei Instagram folgt, weiß, dass ich vor einigen Wochen für meinen neuen Arbeitgeber für ein paar Tage in Kopenhagen war und einige meiner absoluten Lieblingslabels besuchen durfte. Eines von ihnen ist Muuto, wo ich die Designerin Nina Bruun zum Interview getroffen habe.

Klar, dass ich vor dem Treffen schon ein klitzekleinen Wenig aufgeregt war. Aber Nina hat mich überaus offen im Kopenhagener Muuto Showroom empfangen, obwohl sie an dem Tag alle Hände voll zu tun hatte. Spätestens bei der Begrüßung, als wir zwei so aneinander runterschauten und feststellten, dass wir im Partnerlook gekleidet waren, war meine Aufregung allerdings vollends verflogen.

Die 31-jährige Nina Bruun hat im Sommer 2012 die Royal Academy of Fine Arts abgeschlossen und kurz darauf angefangen für Muuto zu arbeiten, wo sie insbesondere für die Farbpalette des dänischen Labels verantwortlich ist. Sie hat eine lockere und positive Art, die richtig ansteckend wirkt. Eine tolle Person, die ich euch heute gerne in einem kleinen Interview näher vorstellen möchte.

Und daher übergebe ich jetzt das Wort an Nina Bruun, der ich sogar noch einen kleinen Einblick in ihre vier Wände entlocken konnte. Also seid gespannt.

„Hi Nina! Thank you for taking the time to answer some questions. How are you?“ 

Hi Sarah! Thank you for meeting me and thank you, I am doing really well. I just had a great weekend and now back at the office I am really excited to get back to work and all my projects.

„You graduated the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the summer 2012. What did you do afterwards and how did you start working with Muuto?“

After graduating I did some different projects, I felt like challenging myself and try the life as an independent business woman. But shortly after Kristian (one of the founders of Muuto) called me and offered me my dream job. That became the start of my Muuto career.

„How would you describe working with Muuto?“

I spend a lot time at the office, therefore the Muuto-team is almost like family. It’s a team of hard-workers, but the atmosphere is still cozy and relaxed – I love that. I have very good friends within the office.

„What is your typical work style?“ 

I am very curious and very eager to learn – I think that defines not only my work style but my life.

„How do you record ideas?“

I draw and I take tons of pictures, both saving them for my own record, but I am also a very big fan of Instagram – where I share my photos and find inspiration.

„Tell me about a current project you’re working on. What was the inspiration behind it?“

I am working together with a very talented Danish textile designer on a project for Muuto. The inspiration was how to get the best out of well-known techniques, experimenting with colors and thickness of the material instead of designing the expression on forehand and then look at techniques afterwards. I am really excited about both the whole process but also the result.

„What is your favorite product that you designed for Muuto and why?“ 

I can’t mention one project as I am a part of so many processes and projects but I am in charge of the Muuto colour universe and that is a part of my job that I am really proud of. Colour is a big part of the Muuto DNA.

„A lot of my favorite designers are Danish. Why do you think Denmark is boosting so many great design companies?“ 

I am very happy to hear that you are a fan of Danish design – so am I. I think it goes way back. We have strong traditions with design and architecture, which means that we have a lot to live up to and I believe that people are doing that extra effort to make both great design and great design companies.

„When did you realize you wanted to be a designer?“ 

I’ve always been very creative and loved drawing and building. Both my brother, parents and grandparents are (were) creative so it was on the cards that I was going to follow some footsteps from a very early age.

„What is your favorite material to work with?“ 

I am in love with so many materials – but I really like PET felt – both the look, feel, qualities and the environmental compatibility.

„Where do you currently live and what does your home look like? Do you have anything in your home that you’ve designed/created?“ 

I live in an apartment in Copenhagen (Nørrebro) – its 80 sqm and located on the top floor of a hundred year old building. My style is minimalistic, but still personal. I love design and art – you can tell from my home. My balcony on the other hand is a jungle of plants and flowers – the perfect and messy extension of my home. I have a couple of things, a daybed called Kilim and then I have my Nest Chair. From Muuto I have the Oslo Chair and Sofa, the Base Table, a couple of Fiber Chairs and quite a few lamps and accessories.
